Nicknamed "Major" Harsh or Uncle Doc.

Served overseas in the Medical Corps in WWI.

He was a Homeopathic physician.

For the last 40 years, he operated Harsh Phosphate Co. east of Nashville. He managed the plant just enough to live on, not get ahead.

In the l920s he bought Eastbrook Springs Hotel and 6 houses, very crude swimming pool designed by him. This became a gathering place for the family, including all Chitty children plus Harshes from all TN. It was about l0 miles north of Winchester on the old Tullahoma Rd. It was flooded when the Tim's Ford Dam was built. There was a big family reunion there before the flooding, in l97l.

His first wife divorced him due to his sexual appetite/demands on her. This was reported by his daughter Eileen who sided with her mother.
