General Notes:
(From pages in William Alan Baird’s possession) Francis Leslie Baird owned and operated a cigar store in Cleveland. He married Kathryn Eggert and they had 4 children: Grace, Frank, Leona who died in infancy before the birth of Kathryn Leila. Frank Had tuberculosis and went to Denver for a cure which turned out to be a con game, and came home to die at age 28. His brother Tom Baird married Clara ___?. Tom was a successful businessman becoming quite wealthy. At his death Clara married his brother Frederick (probably for Thomas’ money). After he died Clara married an architect named Gustav Bahn. Clara was an elegant, imperial lady, a little frightening to a child, but no doubt an intelligent, witty conversationalist. She was a world traveler at a time when this was the exception. Her sponster sister lived with her- Trace- more like a servant than relative. She (Trace) was faithful and attentive to Clara to her death. Clara became very senile before death. Dolly Baird married Dell Kinney, president of the Kinney Steamship Co., and remained wealthy forever. Dell was appointed guardian to Frank’s three children. He sent Frank Jr. to grandmother Eggert, Grace to his brother (no blood relative of Grace), who had 7 boys and wanted a girl. Kathryn was sent to Dolly’s sister Jenny. He later paid for Grace and Kathryn’s educations, advanced ducation for those times. Grace went to business school to become a secretary. Kathryn went to Western reserve normal school to become a teacher.
Francis married Kathryn EGGERT. (Kathryn EGGERT was born in 1867 and died in 1895.)
