General Notes:
Had a twin who died at birth.
Had to leave Univ. of FL (Phi Delta Theta fraternity), did not finish because his father died unexp[ectedly and Earl had to go home and run the family business.
Was a Navy Lieutenant in the Pacific in WWII, was responsible for the landing craft that landed marines on islands in the Pacific, was fired at from both directions. He was in charge of the landing craft and when the door opened the marines would be mowed down in front of him. Like others in his generation, he would not talk much about his WWII experiences.
Died of Leukemia at age 48, within a week or two of being diagnosed.
When Earl and Betty got married in 1938, one of her friends gave an astrology reading as a gift, saying “You will cross the ocean many times.”
Vernon married "Betty" Marion Elizabeth CHITTY, daughter of Arthur Benjamin CHITTY Sr. and Hazel Talitha BROWN. ("Betty" Marion Elizabeth CHITTY was born on 31 Dec 1916 in Jacksonville, FL and died in Sep 2010 in Jacksonville, FL.)
