Her family home was 7 miles from Lebanon on the old road to Cairo
To home educate their children, they started Minerva College which after the war became Hope Institute, headed by the Talbert Fannings, which also served as a church where Mr. Fanning preached, attracting such illustrious preaches as Alexander Campbell and David Lipscomb. Nearby Fanning also conducted Frankln College for boys and young men. (Rutherford)
Many adventures and difficulties during the Civil War; always helpful to the poor and needy, grew vegetables to give away. Older slaves would not leave even after they had been freed. Union soldiers camped by the house and often were troublesome, but she managed to keep her family from harm.
Her funeral in 1869 was noted as a larger expression of grief in the community than anyone before or after.
