  General Notes:

His ear drum was damaged about 1922 maybe on ship in Puerto Rico. He was medically retired in 1923 but always wanted to stay on.

Worked for Daddy Merritt's cotton press as a bookkeeper in the 20s, but it was sold in 1930. This threw EPN, POL and AEN all out of work. POL went to work at JAM Co.

Around 1931 ENC went to stay with Kitter for a while, EPN may have been receiving treatment for alcohol. He was not a secretive drinker, would stop off at lunch and dinner for drinks.

During the 30s he collected stamps. He also was a checker on the dock occasionally.

He tried selling life insurance, went back in Navy after finding a doctor who could give a good blood pressure result. Moved to air station navy quarters in 1943. ENC was working at the dispensary for the psychiatrist.

Moved to East Pensacola Heights in 1926.

At the time of his death he was drunk and fell and could not get up. ENC called commading officer of hospital whom she had worked with Jesse Wright, they carried him out. As he was being rolled out he said, "Let me see the boy” (ABC3, age 1) so ENC brought the baby out to the ambulance.

He had said to POL if you put me in the hospital I'll kill you.

• Education: B.S. U.S. Naval Acad., 1912.

• Religion: Episcopalian.
