- Died: 1927, Washington, DC

General Notes:
Noted pioneer aviator killed in crash preparing for first Transatlantic flight, before Lindbergh. The flight was their last practice take-off before the actual flight. It was to be a dual piloted effort, not solo like Lindbergh. Staunton Wooster was to be the co-pilot. There was a third contestant for the $25,000 prize for first Transatlantic flight, Richard Byrd. Richard Byrd may have been E.P. Nickinson’s roommate at the Naval Academy.
When Lindbergh succeeded just after, he threw a wreath out of the plane in Idaho over Noel's home town, in honor of Noel.
Movie "Spirit of St. Louis" with Jimmy Stewart, mentions Davis' death, and the gas tank was moved as a result of the crash.
His son was 18 months when he died.
Noted events in his life were:
• Education: Naval Acad. 1914.
Noel married "Kitter" Mary Elizabeth MERRITT, daughter of John Abercrombie MERRITT and Mary Rosa TURNER. ("Kitter" Mary Elizabeth MERRITT was born on 27 Oct 1893 in Pensacola, FL and died on 14 Apr 1987 in Minneapolis, MN.)
