Herbert had a sister named Bess, Kitter took care of her in old age. Bess had a spectacular bracelet with at least 5 diamonds including one about 6 carats. When Kitter became forgetful, Mary took it up to Minnesota for safekeeping and taped a message for Kitter inside her purse, "Mary has the bracelet."
